Batman Car Toy
At least 10 times a day my 4y son will say ” I’m….”and the blank is filled with whatever toy he’s playing w?
He’ll go from being Batman and two minutes later he’s speed racer and from that , if he’s playing with a toy car, then he says “I’m the blue car”. Also, he needs to make sure that we hear him saying who he is at that time. He will not stop until we acknowledge who he is.
Imagination is a wonderful thing – and yes it’s normal. One of my daycare kids will say over and over (and over!) a million times the same thing (whatever it is that’s he’s playing with) until I acknowledge what he’s saying. I’ve tried to broaden his vocabulary it a little (he’s almost 2) and instead of saying, “Yes, Timmy, it’s a car” – I’ll say, “Timmy, is that a BLUE car?”. You can try the same by saying “Where is Batman going?” “Who is Batman with?” “Should Batman fly to the Batcave?” It would help him keep going with the same story line for a little longer.
